When a few years ago I gave the West German Television permission for a production of a spectacle based on "The Expedition of Professor Tarantoga" I demanded a very high author's fee. The Germans protested there was no such rate so I explained this wasn't a rate - but a schmerzgeld since I was sure they would botch this story.

 


Roly-Poly (Przekladaniec) Andrzej Wajda, 1968 There were a number of adaptations of Stanislaw Lem's works.  These include films such as The Hospital of Transfiguration, The Astronauts (First Spaceship on Venus), The Investigation, Roly-Poly, Solaris (filmed twice: in 1972 by Tarkovsky and in 2002 by Soderbergh).  TV adaptations include Pirx kalandjai (Hungary), The Test of Pirx the Pilot, Victim of the Brain (Seventh Sally), Ijon Tichy: Raumpilot (2007).
